I purchased 4 shades of Lip Couture from LASplash Cosmetics, and I’ll be sharing my review from each day I tried them, culminating in a swatching video that I’ll be sharing from my YouTube channel.
Lip Couture Shades: Forbidden, Poison Apple, Latte Confession, Innocent Vixen
(There is more of an introduction to the product and brand in yesterday’s** post, here. )
Day 2: Poison Apple
First things first: I LOVE this color! It isn’t exactly as the swatch on the website, but it’s gorgeous nonetheless. It’s really beautiful. The pictures do not do it justice. At all. Gorgeous. I got this as a sort of Red Velvet (Velvetine from Lime Crime) dupe, even though I don’t actually have Red Velvet. It seems a bit darker than Red Velvet appears, but I the Wicked Velvetine, and I think that Lip Couture’s Vampire is probably closer to it. But since Wicked is the only Velvetine I have, I’ll use it as a comparison.
Now, with the Wicked Velvetine, I always have difficulty lining my lips, they never seemed to come out just right. I watched YouTube videos, Instagram videos, did research. It always seemed to run as I was applying it and I’d end up with some on my skin.
While I did have some of this on my fingers after the initial application, from spot checking when applying, I didn’t end up with it all around my mouth. I used a tiny bit of coconut oil on a cotton swab followed by a tiny bit of concealer on one spot that I felt dipped a bit too far down on my lower lip, but still it came out great. And this shade, when I put it on and waited the 2 minutes for it to dry, it did not transfer during the “hand-kiss” test like Forbidden did yesterday**.
We then went to see Jurassic World (BADASS!!!!). I partook of popcorn and an Icee.
Obviously.
The unfortunate thing about this was that after eating, unlike the shade of Forbidden that I wore yesterday**, it had visibly reduced in color around the inner part of the lips. Not a terrible amount, it wasn’t like a giant red ring around my mouth, like my experience with the Wicked Velvetine, but it was a noticeable difference, at least to me. If my mouth was closed, then you couldn’t tell, but if I was talking, then you could see it.
So I did reapply this, which I didn’t have to do with the Forbidden shade. It wore a lot more obviously throughout the day, presumably because of the difference in color from my naked lips to the lip couture. By the end of the night (seen in the below photo), I did have the dreaded RED RING OF DEATH. (Or something less dramatic.)
It also seemed to be more easy to actually remove at the end of the night. There wasn’t any scrubbing necessary this time. I just put coconut oil on my lips, rubbed it in with my finger, and wiped it away. It did still leave a slight stain to the lip, but I tend to sleep with coconut oil on my lips, covered with Vaseline Lip Therapy anyway. So by the time I woke up, there wasn’t any particularly noticeable staining left. And I was a blank canvas for the next shade: Latte Confession.
From my experience wearing the Lime Crime Velvetine in Wicked, I’d say this wears very comparably, although with Wicked I’d have had a more noticeable ring after just the popcorn.
Again, I want to say that I LOVE this shade. Poison Apple is one of the most beautiful reds I’ve ever worn, I think it works great with my skin tone, and I can easily see it being my go-to red lip. At this price point, $13.98 USD, I can afford to have back up for my purse and the red ring of death will no longer be an issue.
(Sidenote Again: My husband liked this shade much more than Forbidden. Guess how much I cared this time? A lot more, because husband.)
**(Apologies for the lateness of this post. Summertime + college coursework + taxiing children + a handsome husband with a little time off = Not getting side projects done on time.)
